President Gloria Caceres called the meeting to order and welcomed all in attendance. Nelda Martinez introduced the program speaker, Dr. Greg Silverman, who spoke on women’s health as it relates to cardiology, followed by a question and answer session. There were no minutes of the last meeting available. Treasurer Barbara Cline presented a combined March/April Treasurer’s Report. Esther Martinez gave the Membership Committee report. She said the chapter has had 43 renewals and one new member in the past month. Ann Smith presented the Communications Committee report. She said that the Coastal Bend TDW newsletter is now available at the TDW website and that Judy Loverde had arranged to list our monthly membership meeting at the Texas Democratic Party website. Mary Saenz gave a Fundraising Committee report. The T-shirts for Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama sold at the County Convention raised over $500.00 for the chapter. Judy Loverde gave a report from the Program Committee, and said we would have a surprise guest for the May meeting. She said Glenda Turner would be the speaker for the June meeting. The program will be on women in the military. Under Old Business, Gloria encouraged everyone to support the Blue Star Breakfast at the State Convention, which is hosted by TDW. There will be a TDW booth at the convention, and TDW is hosting the Women’s Caucus, to be held from 9 am--11 am on Friday, June 6. Under New Business, there was some discussion on how to reach out and involve new Democrats who will be attending their first state convention. A suggestion was made that the officers and committee chairs or a group of interested members hold a brainstorming session sometime in June. Under Announcements, Gloria reminded the chapter of the TDW retreat to be held in Waco on July 12. There will also be a Cinco de Mayo cultural program to be presented at the Garcia Arts and Education Center, 2021 Agnes, May 5, from 6 pm--8 pm. There will also be prizes and refreshments served. Gloria announced that the next meeting will be Tuesday, May 27, at the Retama Library, at 6 pm. A motion was made, with second, and passed to adjourn the meeting. |
