| TDWFB was formed by Sylvia Garza, First President, and her daughter, Monica Garza in January, 2001. After the 2000 disappointing Presidential election, Sylvia realized that change takes involvement. Sylvia further desired to form an organization that would be all-inclusive and not just for Hispanic women as suggested by others. She strongly felt that all women have concerns and issues important to ALL women. Inspired and determined, Sylvia and Monica chose to begin TDWFB in the most “central area” in Fort Bend – Sugar Land. Strongly believing that Sugar Land is the “Heart of Fort Bend County”, TDWFB was formed and its by-laws state that its meetings will be held in Sugar Land’s First Colony Library, the central point of the county. Quoting from Sylvia and Monica’s mission statement: “It is the hope that the Texas Democratic Women of Fort Bend County chapter serves the Democratic County constituents well. It is also the hope that we can encourage others to become engaged in the political process. When people unite and believe in a common cause enough to “get involved” change takes place. DEMOCRATIC WOMEN ARE THE HEART OF THE PARTY!” Get Involved, Get Informed, Make a Change |
