TDW Supported Outstanding Women Candidates with $61,000

TDW, through our Texas Democratic Women PAC (TDW PAC), was proud to have supported outstanding women candidates in the 2010 election. Unfortunately, with the nationalization of races, at all levels of government, and the overwhelming number of straight ticket voters we lost unprecedented numbers of races in which outstanding candidates were giving their all. We are indebted to these outstanding candidates for the incredible effort they made.

Republicans in both Texas and nationwide, make a mistake if they read a mandate into the election results. Angry voters were opposed to incumbents and the republicans were successful in their highly negative messaging. Therefore, it is important for TDW Chapters to continue to speak out when false statements are made. Not enough has been made of the extraordinary amounts of money spent by our opponents due to the Citizens United vs. FEC Supreme Court decision that allowed our opponents to heavily outspend us.

Nevertheless, as I’ve talked to TDW members and officers across the state, there is tremendous energy in your voices and determination to keep up the fight. With the enormous debt incurred by Gov. Perry and the republican lead legislature, there will be debilitating budget cuts ahead as well as redistricting. We have much that will challenge us, so we need to be strong.
