2012 “Blue and Silver” Convention Will Celebrate TDW’s 25th Anniversary

This coming year we will celebrate 25 years as one of the better-known and most respected organizations in Texas politics.  A quarter of a century of political activism and accomplishments is no small feat.  I have always believed that TDW is the “Heart of the Party”, whether on the state level or with our own local Democratic Party.  Your membership and support are a strong backbone for the Party!

As President-Elect, my duties include choosing a theme for the upcoming Texas Democratic Women Annual Convention.  While reflecting on what will be our organization’s 25th year anniversary, I came across something that really stayed with me.  This is what we are all about!

Securing our Place….Security for our future generations is exactly why we continue this activism.

Leading our Future….We want to lead for our future and to continue for those behind us.

Unfolding the History….We have come a long way, but there is still room to make history!

Treasuring the Journey….Let’s not forget our journey to where we are now, and let’s always remember the causes behind our journey.

Honoring the Past….Susan B. Anthony once said, “Every single inch of ground that woman stands upon today has been gained by the hard work of some little handful of women of the past.”  I think these are beautiful words to live by, and I hope we all stand together in respect of our past.

Embracing the Present….Embracing the present means we move forward with no limits.  Let’s not forget that we all took devastating hits this past legislative session, and the Republican charge on the White House could be an even more difficult path for our state.  However, when everything seems impossible we need to fight together.  When things are difficult, embracing the present calls for us to stand together and fight to preserve our achievements and to reach new heights.

We, as Texas Democratic Women, will work to unite this wonderfully diverse and devoted group behind one common goal...the support of our Party and the involvement of women in the political process!

I know that our Party will face tremendous challenges this election, but we are organized, energized, and ready to take the challenge.  I humbly ask that you attend the 2012 TDW Convention and help celebrate our Silver Anniversary, “25 years”.  As always, there will be some surprises. (Hint: Our colors will be blue & silver!)  Right now our time is limited; we can’t waste any more time, let’s get ready for VICTORIES IN 2012!
